Medical devices for online liquid drugs include a syringe port and a port for dispensing coaxial drug with the axis of the device. [0001] The present invention relates to medical devices for online liquid drugs for purposes of reconstitution and administration of the liquid drug. Background of the invention
[0002] United States Patent 6,238,372 entitled "Fluid Control Device" illustrates and describes a fluid control device for use with a syringe and at least one medical container. The fluid control device includes a first port, a second port for receiving the syringe, a third port including an adapter having a member of the fluid channel that extends into the medical container when attached to it and a control member of flow selectively disposed of a first fluid control position that allows a flow passage between a first pair of two ports and a second flow control position allowing a flow passage between a second pair of two ports. The flow control member is coupled to one of the ports for manipulation between its fluid control positions.
[0003] PCT international application for common property PCT / IL2005 / 000376 entitled "Medical liquid drug devices" and published in PCT International Publication WO 2005/105014 illustrates and describes a liquid drug medical device for drug reconstitution and administration purposes liquid, a bottle adapter with elastomeric tubing and a needle guard removal device. The liquid drug medical device has a longitudinal axis and is intended for use with a saline source and a medical container. The liquid drug medical device includes a body member having a first port for fluid connection to the saline source and a flow control member pivotally mounted on the body member on a codirectional axis of rotation with the longitudinal axis. The flow control member has a first major flow duct and a second major flow duct substantially parallel and not coaxial with the axis of rotation and respectively ending at a second port, and a third port for administering the liquid drug. The liquid drug medical device further includes a manually rotating adapter having a fluid channel member with a close end in fluid communication with the second port and a distal end that extends to the medical container in its attachment to the adapter, and coupled to the member flow control to rotate between a first fluid control position to connect the first port to the second port, and a second flow control position to connect the first port to the third port.
[0004] The international PCT common application PCT / US2008 / 070024 entitled "Medicine mixing and injection apparatus" and published in PCT International Publication WO 2009/038860 illustrates and describes a mixing and injection apparatus including a needle and a needle base, a syringe fixing element and a mixing chamber engagement assembly including a needle chamber around the needle and a first part of the liquid channel, sealed from the needle chamber and a mixing chamber engagement part including a second part of the liquid channel that communicates with the first part of the liquid channel and configured for communication with a mixing chamber. The syringe clamp and the base needle are configured to allow liquid communication between an interior of the syringe and the first part of the liquid channel when the syringe clamp and the base needle are in the first relative engagement orientation and for allow liquid communication between an interior of the syringe and the needle when the syringe holding element and the base needle are in the second relative engagement orientation, axially separated from the first relative orientation by the injection axis.
[0005] The international application for common property PCT / IL2010 / 000915 entitled "Medical Liquid Drug Devices in line with displaceable sliding flow control member" and published in PCT International Publication No. WO2011 / 058548 illustrates and describes medical devices of in-line liquid drug having a longitudinal device axis, a housing with a linear displaceable sliding flow control member displaceable along a transverse bore of a first flow control position to establish flow communication between a first pair of ports for liquid drug reconstitution purposes between a second pair of ports for liquid drug delivery purposes, and a manually operated drive mechanism to apply a linear displacement force to stimulate the control flow member to slide through its first bore flow control position to your second flow control position. Summary of the invention
[0006] The present invention is directed to in-line liquid drug medical devices for use with a physiological fluid source and a medicinal container for purposes of reconstitution and administration of the liquid drug. The in-line liquid drug medical device includes a housing having a longitudinal device axis and a vial adapter removably attached to the housing and separated from it by a codirectional separation line with the device axis. The housing includes a port collector having a first port for fluid connection to a physiological fluid source and a drug dispenser port fitted with a drug dispenser such as a needle, an atomizer, and the like, for drug delivery purposes liquid. The first port and the drug delivery port are coaxial with the axis of the device to facilitate intuitive use of the device. The in-line liquid drug medical device further includes a rotary flow control member pivotally mounted on the door manifold on an axis of rotation coaxial with the axis of the device. The flow control member includes a second port for fluid communication with a medicinal container for purposes of reconstituting the liquid drug. The vial adapter is configured to extract from the housing to transpose a rotary flow control member from a first initial flow control position for liquid drug reconstitution purposes to a second subsequent flow control position for drug administration purposes liquid. [0016] Figure 1 shows a syringe 10 which constitutes a source of physiological fluid, a vial 20 which constitutes a medicinal container and a medical device for in-line liquid drug 100 for use with syringe 10 and vial 20. Syringe 10 includes a barrel 11 with a plunger 12 and a male Luer lock connector 13. Syringe 10 can be formed with other types of connectors. The vial 20 includes a top open bottle 21 sealed by a vial cap 22 bounded by a metal strip 23 or other suitable limited material. Vial 20 contains a liquid or powder drug 24. Syringe 10 typically contains diluent to reconstitute contents of vial 24.
[0017] Figures 2 to 5B show the in-line liquid drug medical device 100 having an axis of the longitudinal device 101, and including a housing 102, a rotary flow control member 103, a manually rotating vial adapter 104 and a rigidly mounted tubular sleeve 106. Housing 102 includes a syringe port 107 which constitutes a first port coaxial with the axis of the device 101. Syringe port 107 is typically implemented as a female Luer connector for engaging the threaded thread with the male Luer lock 13. Housing 102 includes a conical port collector 108 integrally formed with the syringe port 107 and tapering from one end of the port collector close to the wide diameter 108A adjacent to the syringe port 107 toward an end of the collector of the distal threaded door 108B.
[0018] The port collector 108 includes a tapered peripheral surface 109 and a rim 111 circumferentially around the collector end of the nearby port 108A having two radially opposing fixing wings 111A. The port collector 108 includes a locking thread 112 at its end of the distal port collector 108B for engaging the thread between housing 102 and the bottle adapter 104. The end of the distal port collector 108B includes a recess in the port collector 113 to secure the flow control member 103 to it.
[0019] The port collector 108 includes a minor flow channel 114 transverse to the axis of the device 101 and extending radially from the syringe port 107 to the peripheral surface of the port collector 109. The port collector 108 includes a dispensing port drug 116 constituting a third coaxial port with the device axis 101 and the syringe port 107. The drug delivery port 116 extends during the process between the syringe port 107 and the distal end of the port 108B collector at the end distal of the 108B port collector. The drug delivery port 116 is preferably fitted with a drug delivery device in the form of a needle 117, a spray nozzle, and the like, for purposes of delivering the liquid drug. The port collector 108 includes a full hole 118 transverse to the axis of the device 101 and in fluid communication with the drug delivery port 116 so that they look like a T.
[0020] The flow control member 103 is is pivotally mounted on the port collector 108 on an axis of rotation 119 coaxial with the device axis 101, the syringe port 107 and the drug delivery port 116. The flow control 103 has a cylindrical outer wall 121 and a tapered inner wall 122 facing the port collector 108 to seal the assembly therein. The flow control member 103 includes an end close to the flow control member 103A and a distal end of the flow control member 103B. The flow control member 103 is shorter than the port collector 108 and is mounted thereon so that the distal end of the port collector 108B exits through the distal end of the flow control member 103B. The distal end of the flow control member 103B has a bottom face surface 123 formed with a cavity 124 and an opposite blind cavity 126.
[0021] The flow control member 103 includes an axially directed liquid drug reconstitution channel 127 having a close opening 128 and ending at a second distal port 129 consisting of cavity 124. The close opening 128 is in fluid communication with the channel minor flow 114 in a first flow control initial position of flow control member 103 to establish fluid communication between syringe port 107 and second port 129 (see figures 4A and 4B). Flow control member 103 includes an axial liquid drug delivery channel 131 formed on its own internal conical wall 122 in fluid communication with minor flow channel 114 when flow control member 103 is in a second control position flow flow to establish fluid communication between syringe port 107 and drug delivery port 116 (see figures 5A and 5B).
[0022] The bottle adapter 104 includes a skirt 132 with an upper surface 133 and down depending on the flexing members 134 to fit the drug bottle 20. The bottle adapter 104 includes an elongated vertical stem 136 having two stem walls curved opposites parallel 136A and 136B lateral to the axis of the device 101. The stem 136 includes ribs of the annular stem 137 in a direction transverse to the axis of the device 101. The ribs of the stem 137 are formed with complete openings 138 to receive the needle 117 coupling o vial adapter 104 in housing 102. The stem wall 136A ends at a stem tip connector 139A and the stem wall 136B ends at a stem tip connector 139B. Each stem wall 136 has an engagement tooth 141 for engaging the locking thread 112 to separately attach the adapter of the bottle 104 to the housing 102. The stem tip connectors 139A and 139B fit into the cavities 124 and 126 respectively to attach the adapter from flask 104 to flow control member 103 in the initial liquid drug reconstitution position of flask adapter 104 to allow flask adapter 104 to rotate flow control member 103 with respect to port 108 collector.
[0023] The stem wall 136A includes a fluid channel 142 codirectional with the axis of the device 101 and lateral to it. Fluid channel 142 has an end close to fluid channel 142A in stem tip connector 139A to seal the insert in second port 129. Fluid channel 142 has distal end 142B in fluid communication with a fluid interconnect channel radial 143. Fluid interconnect channel 143 is in fluid communication with a coaxial drilling cannula 144 to pierce the lids of the vial 22 in the insert assembly of the vial adapter 104 in the drug vial 20. The perforating cannula 144 extends so that by inverting drug vial 20 the entire liquid drug content can be aspirated from it through the perforation cannula 144.
[0024] In the first flow control position, the locking thread 112 is engaged by the locking tooth 141 to prevent the bottle adapter 104 from being separated from the housing 102. As the bottle adapter 104 is rotated to unscrew the tooth latch 141 of the fastening thread 112; the flask adapter 104 simultaneously rotates the flow control member 103 from its first flow control position to its second flow control position. The engagement tooth 141 disengages completely from the fastening thread 112 after transposing the flow control member 103 in its second flow control position, when the bottle adapter 104 is completely separated from the housing 102 by the codirectional separation line with the shaft device 101.
[0025] Glove 106 includes an end close to glove 106A with a pair of fixing notches 146 to attach to fixing wings 111A to secure glove 106 in housing 102 and a distal end of glove 106B terminating at the distal end of the collector of the port 108B. The sleeve 106 around the flow control member 103 to allow convenient user retention of the medical device of the online liquid drug 100.
[0026] Figures 6A to 6G show the use of the online liquid drug medical device 100 for purposes of reconstitution and administration of the liquid drug as follows:
[0027] Figure 6A shows the device 100 in its initial state ready for reconstitution of the liquid drug. The bottle adapter is screwed into the housing in its initial liquid drug reconstitution position and engages the flow control member in its first initial flow control position to protect fluid communication between the syringe port and the cannula. A user retains the glove and assembles the device 100 in a drug bottle 20, as indicated by the arrow M.
[0028] Figure 6B shows the user approaching syringe 10 towards device 100, as indicated by arrow N, and screwing syringe 10 onto device 100, as indicated by arrow O.
[0029] Figure 6C shown the user injecting the contents of the syringe into the drug bottle 20, as indicated by the arrow P. The user shakes the assembly to reconstitute the liquid drug.
[0030] Figure 6D shows the user inverting the assembly and aspirating the reconstituted contents of the liquid drug in syringe 10, as indicated by arrow Q.
[0031] Figure 6E shows the user rotating the bottle adapter with respect to the housing as indicated by the arrow S to simultaneously transpose the flow control member into its second subsequent flow control position and separate the bottle adapter from the housing as indicated by the arrow S (see figure 6F). In this position, the syringe port is in fluid communication with the drug delivery port and the needle is exposed for administration purposes (see figure 6G).
[0032] While the invention has been described with respect to a limited number of modalities, it will be appreciated that many variations, modifications, and other applications of the invention can be made within the scope of the appended claims. For example, the stem may include a solid part with a fluid channel and a blind needle hole.

Claims (3)
[0001]
1. In-line liquid drug medical device (100) for use with a saline source and a medicinal container for reconstitution and administration of a liquid drug, the in-line liquid drug medical device having a longitudinal device axis (101) , and comprising: (a) a housing (102) including a first port (107) for fluid connection to the source of saline, and an integrally formed port collector (108) having a peripheral port collector surface (109) and a smaller flow duct (114) transversal to the axis of the device (101) and extending said first door (107) radially to said surface of the peripheral door collector (109), said first door (107) being coaxial with the device axis (101); (b) a revolving flow control member (103) having a second port (129) and revolving in said port collector (108) on a rotation axis (119) coaxial with the device axis (101), and the said first port (107) of a first initial flow control position in which the smaller flow duct (114) is in fluid communication with the second port (129) to establish fluid communication between said first port (107) and the said second port (129) for purposes of reconstituting the liquid drug in a second subsequent flow control position to establish fluid communication between said first port (107) and the port for dispensing drug (116) for purposes of liquid drug delivery ; and (c) a manually rotating vial adapter (104) to fit the medical container (20) and including an elongated vertical rod (136) for initial engagement with said flow control member (103) in said first control position flow rate in an initial liquid drug reconstitution position of said vial adapter, said vial adapter (104) having a fluid channel (142) co-directional to the axis of the device (101) and lateral to it, said channel of the fluid (142) having a near end (142A) in fluid communication with said second port (129) and a distal end (142B) in fluid communication with a puncture cannula (144) which extends in the medical container in the fixation of the said vial adapter (104) in said initial liquid drug reconstitution position, said vial adapter (104) being manually pivoted from said housing (102) by the codirectional separation line with the device axis (101) to simulate simultaneously transposing said flow control member (103) from said first initial flow control position to said second subsequent flow control position, characterized by the fact that the port collector (108) includes the port for dispensing drugs ( 116), said drug delivery port (116) being coaxial to said first port (107) and the device axis (101), and said flow control member (103) having an internal wall (122) facing the said port collector (108) and having an axial liquid drug delivery channel (131) in fluid communication with said minor flow duct (114) in said second flow control position to allow fluid communication between said first door (107) and said door for dispensing drug (116) from the door collector (108).

Device according to claim 1, characterized in that said vertical elongated stem (136) includes two opposing spaced apart stem walls (136A, 136B) separated at least by a transverse stem rib (137), wherein a stem wall includes said fluid channel (142) and an arrangement (138) for receiving a needle (117) disposed in said drug delivery port (116).
